Maybe it’s because it’s getting hot, or maybe it’s because I’m just sick of long hair – but every day last week I wanted to rip my hair right off my head. It was just so annoying. I got to the point where I wearing in a stupid bun every single day. I know that when it gets to that point, a bun, instead of down, it’s time for a change.

After searching pinterest for a few minutes hours, I decided I needed to just cut it off. I text my hair dresser that I needed an appointment ASAP and that I needed her to cut my hair off and color it. Thankfully she had an appointment on Saturday!!

YAY SHORT HAIR!!!!!

I LOVE IT! SO MUCH COOLER, and it looks healthier too!
No regrets. Chris even said he likes it.. how nice of him, right? He usually likes long hair, but he agreed that this looks much healthier than my long hair.. and I cut my long hair pretty regularly, and use good conditioner on it, it was just done.

Anyways, that’s seriously enough talk about my hair. how boring.

Memorial Day Striders

Monday morning I joined the Striders for their annual Memorial Day run. I set out for 6 miles with Shannon; The first 4 were okay, but I started to feel pretty bad- I can’t remember where we were, but when we stopped for water I about threw up. After that our pace slowed way down, and I was definitely struggling. I thought we were never going to make it back the parking lot.

I’m trying to get back on some kind of running schedule but the rain and humidity isn’t making it very easy. I’d rather be doing almost anything besides running around in 100% humidity – wah.

I’m not going to make my 80 miles/month goal for May – IF I run 5 miles on Thursday, I’ll end the month with 70, which is good enough for me. I had some extra miles from previous months to make up for the deficit. I’m 41% done with my goal of 1000 miles this year. Hopefully, with marathon training starting in the next few months, I’ll have no trouble meeting my goal of 1000 miles.

June will be a better month.

That’s a promise.

How did your May shape up? Race PRs? Monthly mileage PR?

Is it possible to train by only doing weekend long runs? I love long runs so much, but I’m hating week day runs – ugh. This week I busted out a total of 15 miles – so much for that 26 miles I had scheduled … I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I originally planned on going up to Croom to run trails tomorrow but I backed out so that’s 7.5 miles I’m not getting. (maybe I’ll run at home…maybe)

I even cut my long run from 10 to 8 miles .. I suck- No one else was doing 10 so I decided 8 would be a better idea. I don’t enjoy doing long runs by myself, and I hate running through Starkey by myself even more. (Last weekend they found a dead guy at one of the campsites! Don’t worry, they “caught” the killer.. it was one of the guys “friends.”  still scary!)

Moving on to today’s long run: Same morning routine: Coffee & Toast then out the door by 5:45 for a 6:30 meet up time at Starkey.

Unfortunately the temperature wasn’t as cool this morning as it was last Saturday, and the humidity was a real treat. It was kind of weird because in some places it felt like you were running into a wall, and in other places the humidity didn’t seem as bad. It was quite strange – it took my breath away when we ran into a wall of humidity, so gross.. I’m definitely not looking forward to marathon training come August.. ugh.

group mile 4
mile 2.X water stop – I’m going to get killed for posting this.

I bought the new KT Tape pro last weekend and decided to test it out today – I quickly discovered that the new KT tape doesn’t split down the middle like the regular tape, which is a problem since I split it to go around my knee.

See the split? Not the best tape job, but it works.

I checked out the instructions for the KT tape PRO and it shows a full support application – I usually use the light support application. Instead of being smart and looking on the KT tape website for a different application I just used the full support..

About 4 miles into the run today my knee started hurting. Not the hurt that happens when something is up w/ my IT band – a different hurt. I think the KT was on to tight, or it was just to much support for my knee so I took it off and finished the run without it. Thankfully I felt no more discomfort.

I’m thinking about transitioning away from the tape all together. I’ve been pretty diligent about stretching my IT band after every run – I’m hoping a loose IT band makes for a happy knee. Now that I’m not training for anything, it seems like a good time to test out tapeless long runs. But if I get any hint of pain I’ll go back to the tape.

Back to the run: I took a power bar gel at mile 4. Somebody in Pasco county parks department was slacking this weekend because the water was warm, and the cooler at the mile 6.X water stop was EMPTY!!!!! I know we probably shouldn’t rely on the water coolers, but it’s rare that they are out of water, and carrying my own stinks. I took a swig of Kim’s gatorade, then proceeded to burp it up for the next 2 miles (gross).

mile 7 jena

It was pretty uneventful until the last mile where Jackie tried to kill me. I was just minding my own business, run a nice fast pace, when Jackie came out of nowhere and blazed by me. DANG! I got stomped on again in the last 1/4 mile. I looked at my watch at one point and it read 6:17.. WHAT?! I checked out the split graph thing on the Garmin Training center and there were some 6’s thrown into that last mile – holy puke worthy fast. image

Just a few seconds slower than last weeks 8 miler.

I’m waiting for the heat to come crashing in and ruin my long runs – It’s coming. It’s just a matter of time, but until then, I’ll continue to almost kill myself for the last few miles of every long run.

Did you race this weekend? Long run?

OH! GO TO HEIDI’s BLOG AND WISH HER GOOD LUCK!!!! SHE IS RUNNING FARGO TOMORROW!!!

thank goodness my coffee cup fits

At 3:30 today I was ready to jump off a bridge. I think I have a serious case of ADHD.. No, seriously, I do. I was so antsy I couldn’t focus on anything for longer than a few minutes. That makes reading operative reports, and consultation notes rather difficult.

I was planning on leaving at 4, but a minor emergency came up, so I ended up staying until after 5 – this did not improve my mood.

Thankfully Chris called and said that he was almost home, which was a MAJOR surprise since he was supposed to be out of town all week this week. He couldn’t have picked a better day to come home! Sorry to get all mushy, but I really needed a hug.

After a quick vent session we changed into running clothes and headed out for a 3 mile run. Yes, WE.  Chris has been running for the last few weeks, and he is up to 3 miles – He says he doesn’t care to build up any kind of distance, he is just content being able to run a few miles… we’ll see.

I loved having him out there running with me. It was so fun to have him running by my side – I wasn’t concerned with my pace – I just wanted to run a pace that would make it possible for him to run the entire 3 miles – not because I’m pushy, but because I know he’d be very satisfied knowing that he ran 3 whole miles.

We ended our run at 3 miles, and a 9:20avg ! He even agreed to sign up for a local 5k with me!!!!! After our run we went over some good stretches that he should do after every run to make sure he stays loose and uninjured.

3 miles down, 23 more to go to meet my scheduled 26 miles this week.
what was I thinking when I made that schedule?

I can’t believe I forgot to write about this yesterday:  I won’t go into the whole long boring details behind how this happened, I’ll just show you the pictures::::

Chris just got done washing the love bugs off of it – If you don’t know what love bugs are..be thankful, be very very thankful.

It’s a 6 speed, baby!! vroooooom!

Oh yeaahhhh!!! A Nissan 350Z finally found it’s way into my garage, and I am SO STOKED!!!
It’s not new by any stretch of the imagination – but it has SUPER low mileage for the year and it is in immaculate condition..

The story is that a 65 y/o lady drove this car; She took it in to have it serviced and while she was at the dealership she started looking at the new 370Z … either that day or a few days later she ended up trading in the 350Z and bought a new 370Z. I hope to be that lady someday!

It absolutely cracks me up that a 65 y/o lady was driving this car around. That’s one bad Granny!

Needless to say, I’m in LOVE.

If I’m being honest, the functionality of the inside is lacking a little, but what do you expect from a 2 seater car? The cup holders are kind of behind the seats, and there just isn’t much storage. There are a few cubby holes behind the seats, which is great…unless you need something while you’re driving, then it’s kind of inconvenient.

When I saw the cup holders I was a teensy bit afraid that my tervis tumbler wasn’t going to fit – which would be a serious problem since that’s what I drink my coffee out of every morning. Lucky for me (or for the dealership, there is a 3 day return policy) my cup fit nicely. It’s a little difficult to reach for, but I’ll work it out. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to have the things you really want, right?

I have a list of things that need to get done:
1. TINT (it’s to hot in FL to be ridin’ around w/o tinted windows
2. new stereo system – a stereo was definitely not a priority when they made this car. My scion had a nice little system in it AND it came with an iPod hookup… I’m spoiled. I NEED some bump in my stereo, and a place to hook up my iPod.
3. new rims… those granny wheels aren’t going to cut it
4. I’m sure there is something else but I can’t think of it right now

If you need me, I’ll be zipping around town in my lil’ car..

It’s on like donkey kong

group shot mile 2

Last week I had a rough week – I just haven’t been feeling like myself lately, and it kind of came crashing down last week.

I ran a whopping three miles during the week, and contemplated skipping my “long” run on Saturday.

I really just wanted to sit on the couch and pout…and watch Netflix, and pout some more. After Chris got home on Friday night I felt a little better, and decided that I would head out to Starkey Park to run w/ the group.

I decided on Friday night that I wanted to run hard on Saturday – I had some frustration that I wanted to get out and running hard was the best way I could think of to pound out my stress.

I started out the run with a big group of Strider friends, and eventually ended up running w/ Chris & Scott .. which proved to be a mistake fun. One of the reasons I love running w/ the group so much is because of the friendly competition – I didn’t used to be apart of this competition; I just sat back and watched ( and laughed) at the constant jabbing that would come from Chris & Jackie over who is faster… then at the St.Pete RnR 1/2 I accidently ran a 1:47, and somehow I was dragged into the competition.. It’s fun, and hilarious…

Back to Saturday: Somewhere after mile 2 we sped up the pace and separated from the main group – I was feeling pretty comfortable with the pace that we were keeping and I was enjoying the run. The running gods blessed us with a cool(er) morning on Saturday – the temps were in the mid 60’s and the humidity was low.

At mile 4 we stopped for water, I took a gel, and then we headed back in for the final 4 miles. I knew that I wanted to try to run the final 4 miles faster than the first 4 miles.. Apparently Chris had the same idea because I felt like we were racing the final 4 miles.

I’d be lying if I said that these paces felt easy – I was struggling a little but dangit I couldn’t give up. Chris kept pulling ahead of me (Tara and Scott flat out passed me) and that was all the motivation I needed to run harder.

Somewhere around mile 6.5 Chris dropped back and told me I had him …. I got cocky. I slowed down a little bit – he was killing me with the pace we were keeping and I was glad for the break..

THEN – at mile 7.5 he blew past me.. I mean, he didn’t just beat me, he smoked me. Not by a little, by a lot. He was probably behind me laughing the whole time – he was back there building up his energy and I was busting my ass to stay ahead of him.. ugh.

that’s okay .. it’s game on now.. Smile with tongue out

image and yes. I had to create this little splits chart on excel because my computer is still broken and I can’t get the Garmin drivers to load onto Chris’ computer.. I haven’t uploaded a run in weeks. I don’t even know how many miles I ran in April or what I’m at so far for May (not much, I can tell ya that).

OH, BTW, running buddy Chris is not my husband Chris.. two different people..

My avg pace was 7:58 !!! My first sub 8 long run, which was/is very exciting for me!

I love long runs – I wish I could just skip all the weekday runs and long run only. Sometimes weekday runs are just so mundane, and pointless…. but I really do need to get back to getting some weekday miles in –

Okay. This is me making a schedule for this week: Maybe making a schedule will give me something to look forward to again?

Monday: okay, let’s start the plan on Tuesday
Tuesday: 4 miles
Wednesday: 4 miles
Thursday: 3 miles
Friday: rest
Saturday: 8 easy
Sunday: 7.5 trail run in Croom
Total: 26 miles …. lol, this laughable considering the last two weeks I’ve run a total of 22 miles
