plans, plans, plans

My life revolves around plans. Meal plans, training plans, weekend plans, work plans.

It’s okay though, because I love planning things out.

I seriously can’t believe that August has come and gone. This year is flying by! Chris always tells me the older you get, the faster time goes. I think he might be right – but never tell him I told you that.ever.

August saw some improvement on the running front. My mileage increased a little bit, and I had some great workouts.

I ran a total of 54 miles in August, which is a slight increase from July. Obviously the mileage is not ideal, but it’s better than it’s been in months.

Last week however was not so stellar in the running department.

Wednesday: 3mi
Thursday: 4mi
Friday: Rest or xtrain
Saturday: 8-9mi w/ running group
Sunday: 3mi recovery
total: 23-24mi

Weekly meal plan

  • whole wheat pizza with green peppers, onions, red peppers, turkey sausage & turkey pepperoni (monday night)
  • shepherds pie w/ ground turkey
  • veggie fajitas
  • minestrone soup
  • honey mustard chicken w/ broccoli
  • chicken w/ balsamic onions & parmesan potatoes
  • sausage & veggie pita sammie

Two of the meals are from last week that we didn’t make. It seems kind of wrong to be making soup since it’s still so hot out, but I’m working on getting into the fall spirit.

I even went to joAnns, target, big lots, and the dollar tree looking for some cute, but not to cheesy fall décor.

I think I love pumpkins.

I didn’t find any décor, well I did, but it was more than I wanted to pay at big lots and target didn’t have much out yet. I’m thinkin’ I’m going to go with some kind of pumpkin theme.

WHO AM I? I’ve never wanted to decorate before. I want cute little decorative hand towels.

Do you decorate for the seasons? holidays? I’ve only ever decorated for Christmas.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day

    • I feel like if I share my plans on my blog then that some how keeps me a little more accountable. If I say I’m going to run 23 miles in one week, and then the next week I report that I only ran 10, that sucks. I find it embarassing to have to come back and make excuses, or whatever as to why I couldn’t do what I said i was going to do.. unless i’m injured, that’s different.

  1. I am a HUGE planner too. I like to know what I am doing ahead of time.. and I feel like I stick to plans much better when they are there…

I have fallen off a little bit with the meal planning, but think I will be back on it now that I am back to work. I just needed that structure back!

Great job on the increase in mileage. I feel like you are a poster child for injury recovery!

    • Ha Ha, Thanks. I don’t think I’m the poster child for injury recovery, but I’ve been dealing with this knee thing for over a year now so I guess I’ve learned how to read it a little better. I pretty much know that a big increase in mileage = disaster. I also stretch like it’s going out of style. Even on short runs I stretch at least twice. I generally stop and stretch after about 5 minutes, when my muscles are warmed up, and 9x out of 10, i’ll stop at least one more time to stretch.

I also stretch for a few minutes after I’m done running. during my long run Saturday I stretched every time we stopped for water. We stopped twice on the way out, and once on the way in, so 3x total in 8 miles. and i stretched like a lunatic afterwards. It’s key to keeping my IT band in check, and keeping my legs happy…although my hammies were super tight after the run I didn’t have any knee pain and that’s what I’m going for here.

  2. are out running, that is what counts! And I’m pretty darn good at resting too! 😉

I never decorate, for anything. I’m a huge slacker like that. Mostly because I don’t want to spend money on something I will only use a month or two…and then have to find a place to store! And I’m lazy!

    • Yes that whole storing it thing is going to be a problem. That is pretty much the only reason Chris doesn’t really want me to decorate. I don’t want to get all crazy or anything. Just a few fall hand towels to put on the oven & dish washer.. I had some cute summer ones out that I loved. and maybe a little pumpkin here & there in the living room/kitchen. Nothing to nutso.

  3. Even though you don’t like coming back here to report what you didn’t do, I find it helpful! Today I was scheduled to run an easy 4 miles but its chilly, windy, and gray outside so I am moving it to tomorrow (going to class at the gym instead tonight) and I feel less guilty when I see other people do the same!

Decorating for fall is actually my favorite season. Do you have any TJ Maxx or Home Good stores in your area? That’s where most of my stuff comes from. Khol’s usually is a good place to look for seasonal towels too!

  4. I feel the same way about posting the actual vs planned. When I think about just skipping it I know that I’ll have to post about it at the end of the week and it keeps me accountable. Don’t feel too guilty though, we all have our ‘off’ weeks.

I love decorating for holidays but husband always complains because we have nowhere to put it in the off season. I’m hoping to just bring some stuff home and putting it out. Maybe he won’t notice??
