excuse me while I step on my soap box

I just got back from dinner and I’m floating in a sea of sushi!

(note: this is not a picture of our sushi.)

mmmm. I think I could live on sushi. All kinds. I don’t know if I have a favorite, I love it all.

Rainbow roll? Yes please
Spicy Tuna
Super Crunch
Shrimp Tempura

yes, yes, and yes pleeeeasseee!!!!!

I am happy to report that I got a short run in before we left for dinner. Chris told me that he wanted to go for a 3 mile run. I talked him into 2 miles. He hasn’t run in months, and I thought 3 miles, in this heat would be a little much.

He did really, really well! I was a proud little wifey! We run 2 miles in 21:30…whatever that pace is.

Today was a really frustrating day at work. I spent 3 hours trying to find home health CARE for a patient.

It’s unbelievable that in the county I live in there are 70 home health agencies, but only ONE of them accepts Medicaid. It’s unacceptable, in my opinion.

I won’t go into all the details because it’s boring and long, but I think it’s completely unacceptable that health CARE providers are not willing, or can’t actually hold up their end of the bargain on that whole CARING thing.

It’s sickening how much of health care is actually about the money and less about the caring.

I’ve worked at my job for a little over a year and it’s been a little bit of a rude awaking.

Don’t get it twisted, I adore my job. It’s great. It’s just that healthcare is such a depressing situation.

What REALLY REALLY pisses me off: Home health agencies come into my office 3-4x/wk soliciting. They want me to know that their agency is the best. That they will do this, this and this for MEDICARE patients, and maybe even some other commercial insurance patients but they wouldn’t shake a stick at a medicaid patient.

Don’t come to me and ask for patient’s when you can’t/won’t see the patient that I ask you to see.

I get it.

Medicaid is awful. It’s hard to deal with, authorization are nearly impossible, and getting paid is almost an act of congress. Then when you do get paid you’re still in the negative.

For example: If it costs an office $67/per patient, and they only get paid $42/patient then they aren’t in the negative, right?

I get it.

We are in healthcare. We are in the business of helping people and taking care of them.

Unfortunately it’s not actually like that. The government, insurances & a plethora of medical malpractice lawsuits have made it impossible to just care for a patient.

stepping down.

Not sure what’s on the work out menu tomorrow.

Maybe a little treadmill action? We’ll see if Chris wants to run tomorrow.

Live yo life

  1. I’m learning to like sushi – slowly but surely! My fav is definitely things like crab or tuna, but I haven’t tried many rolls. Maybe that’s what I need?

Sorry about the frustrating day. I’m sure the politics in healthcare just get maddening. I’m glad there are people like you in the med. field that do care. 🙂
