Bff Beach Day!

Today marks the first day of this summer that I have actually gone to the beach and laid out. I went to Clearwater beach back in June for a protest (I think it was in June). Today my Bff & I ventured to Clearwater for an afternoon in the sun, and it was wonderful! We went to Sand Key Park, I really love it there, maybe I’m partial to it because that is where we had our wedding. It just seems  a lot less crowded then the main beach in Clearwater. Oh, sorry, I got distracted by talking about where we got married.. So, beach day. It was hot, but there was a nice breeze & the water was awesome. I got a little sunburnt, and yes, I put on sunscreen; three different times. I love beach days. I have no pictures to show for it though, we spent most of our time in the water cooling off.

I got up at the buttcrack of dawn this morning. I wanted to get the house cleaned up before we left for the day. Chris got up @ 5:30 to leave for work so I got up then too. By 8am I already had the house swept, mopped, a load of laundry in, breakfast eaten, a mile run, and showered. WHEW!

Tomorrow we are getting up early and going fishing! Hopefully I have lots of pictures to post of all the fishes I’m hoping to catch!!!!

Today was a pretty good  day for eating.

Breakfast: blueberry special K (which actually sounds pretty darn good right now)

Snack: plain yogurt, a splash of syrup & granola

Lunch: Today I had a OSHA/Hipaa compliance luncheon, so I was subjected to whatever they had for us to eat.. They had stuffed shells, (I had one), some ham (i had none), some asapargus (which I tried for the first time, not a fan, at least not how they had it prepared) and they had some fresh fruit..which was a mixture of several things cut up and some of it I had no idea what it was, and it was gross. I ate the grapes and cantaloupe.
Snack: that meeting was 2 hrs, and I was hungry by time I got back to the office. I had lowfat cottage cheese w/ fresh blueberries

Dinner: grilled chicken & steamed broccoli. mmmm mmm good!

My super duper long marathon training plan says that today is a 30 min run. I really don’t like measuring my runs in time unless I have to. An example of having to measure it in time would be last night when I only had about 2o minutes while Chris made dinner. I got in what mileage I could and that was that. I really prefer to go by miles, I don’t really know why, it just makes me feel better I suppose. That is one thing that bothers me about this training plan. The other thing that bothers me is that the weekly runs never increase, through out the whole 30 wk plan it’s a 30 min run Tues & Thurs. I don’t feel like I will get adequate training, I feel like its minimal running. With that being said, I did choose the Jeff Galloway training plan for runners/walkers.

I kinda got off track there, so about today’s run. It was scheduled to be 30 min, it turned into a 4mi run.  4 miles on the treadmill, @9:04 pace, finished in 36:17. It was a really great run, I feel like I pushed myself some to complete the 4 miles in less then 37 minutes. I must say though, that my two other 4 mile runs were outdoor, so I can’t give myself to much credit for finishing quicker today then on my previous 4 mile runs. I hope to get a 4miler in on Thursday outside, hopefully I can maintain a good pace!

According to my training plan tomorrow is a rest day. I’ll probably take it, I need to get some homework done! S-l-a-c-k-e-r!

When I was at Publix today I saw this brochure for their upcoming Family Firtness Weekend!  They offer a Triathlon, Duathlon, and a 5k.  I would love to do the Duathlon, but I am so unprepared, like, don’t even have a bike unprepared. I don’t want to look like an idiot out there. I would obviously not be competing. I would just be participating.  Meh. Maybe I’ll just run the 5k that is the night before the Duathlon & the Triathlon! I would really love to go & watch though, however, I don’t think I’m going to get Chris to Ft. Desoto to watch.  Oh, and I’m reading on the website you have to be a USAT member.. I better think about this a little more, plan a little better, train some, then I could register for something like this.. That sounds like a better plan. =)

Chris bought a boat motor today, again. The first one was crap, that guy pretty much ripped him off.  You live & you learn I guess. So today he bought a 15hp Evinrude, and we took our first trip out on our own boat! It was exciting, and a little scary.

Today’s run was short & quick. I had to fit a run in between dinner & going out on the boat. Chris cooked grilled cheese for dinner & I got 2mi in on the treadmill. 2mi, 8:56pace, 17:54.  It was a good hard run so I didn’t feel to bad about it only being 2mi . Today was supposed to be an off day, but I just felt like I needed to get a run in.

Obviously our dinner wasn’t to spectacular. Chris was in no mood to sit around and wait for me to make dinner.

I got my new shoes today, yayy!!!!  I am going to wait a while before I run in them. I really didn’t need new shoes yet, but they were such a good deal I had to get them!!

Wk2 Marathon training complete!

Today was a typical lazy Sunday for us. As I’ve mentioned before, Sunday is the only day of the week that Chris & I have off together. We sleep in, and just hang out together. Today was really no different. We slept in a little, I dug through some cook books, and surfed some blogs for some new recipes. Then I made up my grocery list and hit the grocery store!

The menu this week will be: (in no particular order)

Spaghetti- because I really could not find anything else I wanted to make this week.

For breakfast today I had some Special K Blueberry. Delish!
Lunch was Pit-Boss BBQ, I had a shredded pork samich, yum!
For dinner… Uhm… I had a cheese omelet. . I originally planned for Chris to grill chicken, but what had happened was; We took  a nap and I forgot to take the chicken out of the freezer and by time we woke up it was to late for it to thaw out before dinner time. Oops..

I went to a Nestie GTG yesterday, we had a great time. It originally was “Tanning &  Lunch” but because there was a tropical depression supposed to dump rain on us we changed it to a Wine GTG… and then that led to us playing cranium, which was quite entertaining! Have you played Cranium before? Yesterday was my first time! This is after Laura, uhm, milked me like a cow.. Yeah..

On to my run today. According to my schedule I was to run 4mi today. I wanted to run outside so we waited until about 7:30 then headed out. The temperature was a lovely 88* , not as bad as it could be, but still pretty ridiculous. I forgot to start my watch, I noticed it about a mile into my run. duh!   Miles 1 & 2 were pretty quick and comfy, except for the disgusting gnats that kept flying into my face and getting stuck, that was soooo gross!!! Miles 3 & 4 s-u-c-k-e-d. A storm started rolling in and the wind kicked up. So I had a headwind of about 15-20mph, and the closer I got to the water the harder the wind blew, it was awful. I had to stop & walk a few times =/ … finally when we rounded the corner to the house we were out of the wind and I could pick my pace back up and finish strong. I was very over it by time I reached the driveway.. Oh, and it started raining big fat rain drops. 20mph winds + fat rain drops = ouch.

I look like a criminal, huh? Excuse me, I am totally not cute after I run. I’m a hot hot mess.. but this picture is to show you the gnats on my face.. see the one under my eye, and the 2 on my nose. GROSSSSSSSSS… and check out that hair, woooweeee..

I bought new running shorts at Target yesterday, they were on clearance, and I am in need of a new pair. They are the c9 brand. They are okay. I only have one other pair of regular shorts, which are Nikes.. Then I have a few pair of spandex shorts.. I started out with rolling them once, then they were driving me crazy during my run so I had to roll them up again. It would be fantastic if I could just buy a pair of shorts that were short enough that I don’t have to roll up. Suggestions.. I saw some shorts on runningwarehouse, but I can’t really tell how short they are.

This is how short I need my shorts.. suggestions?? anyone, anyone?

Tues: 3.2mi, 28min, 8:52 pace
Wed: Rest
Thur: 4mi, 38min, 9:31pace
Fri: was scheduled to be an easy walk, but I went to the casino with my dad, does walking around the casino count? ha ha
Sat: Rest
Sun: 4mi, 37min, 9:20 pace

Total Miles: 11.2 miles… Not super impressive, but mileage is getting better slowly but surely!

Dream.Train.Achieve.

I didn’t get a run in yesterday, and it’s not happening today either. According to my super duper long marathon training plan yesterday was supposed to be an easy walk, which is probably all I could have managed. I am a little sore from that 4 mi run on Thursday. Lame.  Today is an off day for my training plan, so that works out well I suppose. Tomorrow is a 4mi run, that should be doable. I’m pretty sure the rain chance tomorrow is about 105% since Tropical Storm/Depression Bonnie is dumping rain on us this wknd.. 4miles on the dreadmill ought to be interesting.    We put my Dad’s flat screen TV in the living room. Ours finally died, which was also a hand-me-down from my Dad.

R.I.P old TV.. you served us well.

Yeah, so my treadmill sits right in the middle of the living room. At some point we are going to move it into our bedroom and hang a little flat screen on the wall so I can watch TV while I run in our bedroom, the TM just doesn’t really go w/ the living room decor. ..

Typical Florida weather, it’s sunshiney as heck right now, later it’s supposed to rain cats and dogs- Our pool party is going to get rained out. I am meeting up with some friends this afternoon, for what was supposed to be a pool party. Now it’s a wine & cupcake party…. maybe I should run more then 4 miles tomorrow =/

Last night’s dinner was easy peasy deliciouslyness. It’s pretty much the same as one of the dinners we had last week, different noodles, no red pepper, plus squash.

Pasta, Shrimp & Veggies (I’m SO creative, I know!)

1 yellow squash
2 zucchini
balsamic vinegar
1 lb deveined/peeled shrimp
Ronzoni veggie medley noodles

1. Cut up squash and zucchini into bite size pieces;  Pour a little balsamic vinegar in a pan & saute squash & zucchini. Cook the noodles until tender.

2. Boil shrimp until pink.

3. Mix it all together and there ya go.. easy peasy.. We put Italian dressing on ours so it’s not so dry!

Wk2: Marathon Training-

I ordered some new shoes from runningwarehouse — Actually, I ordered two pairs of shoes; see what had happened was, I got so excited because they were on sale, and they were half price so I ordered in the size that I ‘thought’ I wore. Then I got an e-mail this morning saying the shoes shipped, and that reminded me to actually go look @ the size of my shoes. Well, turns out I ordered the wrong size. Thankfully runningwarehouse has free returns. So I ordered the right pair, and when the wrong pair gets here tomorrow I will send them back.  Not much prettier then my current shoes. Oh well. They aren’t for looks, just for comfort.

Tonight’s run was 4mi, @ 9:31 pace, 38:04 –  I felt pretty good except for the fact that my stomach felt so heavy. We went out to soon after dinner, but I wanted to run outside so I just had to deal with it.  My legs felt okay until about mile 3, then my quads started to ache. I had to keep slowing down. I stopped to walk once at about 3.6mi.

Dinner was nothing special, or healthy. Just some Zatarains w/ Turkey sausage.

Ut-oh, I owe the library .20 .. I was just looking on my account to find out when some books are due and lo-and-behold there is an overdue book. Darn. I knew I should have put that book in my car this morning!  Oh crap, and another one is due next week. Unless I do some serious reading in the next week I won’t be finished with it, Hm, wonder if I can renew that one. I don’t think I already renewed it. I have a problem. I put all these books on hold, and the I got them before I really wanted/needed them.

I just finished Jodi Picoult’s House Rules, that’s actually the one that is overdue, I think there is a shorter rental on newer books. I haven’t had it THAT long… My review on that book in one word. “Meh” .. I told Chris, I really did not like that book. I will not go into details, I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. 

I am currently reading The tension of opposites by Kristina McBride. It’s a YA book. It’s okay. I read a review on it, and the reviewer really didn’t like the book. I don’t know if that is making me not like the book, because all I can think about is what that reviewer said. 

I wish I could just take a whole day and have a big ol’ read-a-thon. Sadly, I have to much to do. We have started a new routine though, which I am liking. Before we go to sleep we lay in bed and read.. If you know Chris, don’t tell anyone. Ha ha!  Someone told him about an author that writes about fishing in FL so he told me to find him the book at the library and he would read it.. and he is, and I think he likes it! That’s great!

That’s all I got. This was just a , i’m bored, it’s the middle of the day random post. K. Bye.

Sometimes, life is ridiculously unfair.

I am taking the day off from running. My right knee has been kind of sore today, my left hip was bothering me. My run yesterday was faster then I’ve been running, I pushed kinda hard.  I need to do homework tonight anyways, so it works out.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the two Tampa Police Officers that were killed in the line of duty, Officer Kocab, and Officer Curtis. Officer Kocab’s wife was 9mths pregnant when he was shot and killed. Today she delivered a stillborn baby. As if her life wasn’t already sad enough. I mean seriously? Sometimes life is just ridiculously unfair. According to the article the Kocab’s new their daughter could potentially be stillborn. I doubt that makes this any easier. With in a matter of weeks Sara Kocab lost her husband and her baby. I’m sure Officer Kocab is holding his newborn baby girl up in heaven tonight. It’s just heartbreaking isn’t it? I can not imagine what she is going through. I hope Mrs. Kocab knows how many people are praying for her, and thinking about her every minute, of every hour, of every day. —I ordered on of these t-shirts today.

Enough sadness, I’ve been thinking about this ever since I heard about it this afternoon.

Onto something different. Tonight for dinner I made another new recipe, Shrimp Creole, it was pretty tasty!

Shrimp Creole:

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped green bell pepper
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 cup uncooked rice
1 can (14oz) diced tomatoes, drained & juice reserved
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce, or to taste black pepper
1 pound raw medium shrimp, peeled & deveined
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

1. Preheat overn to 325*F. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell pepper, onion, celery and garlic; cook and stir 5 minutes or until veggies are soft

2. Add rice; cook and stir for 5 minutes over medium heat until rice is opaque. Add tomatoes, oregano, salt, thyme, hot sauce, and black pepper to skillet; stir until blended. Pour reserved tomato juice into measuring cup. Add enough water to measure 1 3/4 cups liquid; add to skillet. Cook & stir 2 minutes.

3. Transfer mixture to 2 1/2 qt casserole. Stir in shrimp. Bake, covered, 55 minutes or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Sprinkle w/ fresh parsley if desired.– Makes 4-6 servings.

This meal was totally delish. I added hot sauce, to much hot sauce, so it was really kind of  hot. But Chris likes hot so he liked it! It was really easy to make! We will def make it again! Next time I want to put chopped pineapple in it, I think that would be awesomeness!! some sweet with all that spicy, mm mm good!

Blackbean casserole – from yesterday:

Prep: 25 min
Oven: 350*F
Bake: 30 Mmin
Makes: 8 main-dish servings

2 cups chopped onion (2 large)  I used 1 onion, it was fine
1 1/2 cups chopped green sweet pepper (2 medium)  I used a piece of a green pepper, i’m not a huge fan
1 (14oz) can tomatoes, un drained & cut up — I used diced tomatoes w/ green chilies
3/4 cup picante sauce or green salsa
2 tsp ground cumin
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 (15oz) cans of black beans and/or red kidney beans rinsed & drained (i ended up using 3 cans of black beans, 2 wasn’t enough)
12 6-inch corn tortillas
8 oz shredded Monterey Jack cheese
2 medium tomatoes (optional)
2 cups shredded lettuce (optional)
sliced green onions (optional)
sliced pitted ripe olives (optional)
1/2 cup dairy sour cream or plain low-fat yogurt (optional)        I didn’t use any of the optional stuff and it was still delish!

1. In a large skillet combine onion, sweet pepper, undrained tomatoes, picante sauce, cumin and garlic. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered for 10 min. Stir in beans.

2. Spread one-third of the bean mixture over the bottom of a 3 quart rectangular baking dish. Top with 6 of the tortillas, overlapping as necessary, and 1 cup of the cheese. Add another one-third of the bean mixture; top with remaining 6 tortillas and remaining bean mixture.

3. Bake, covered, in a 350*F oven 30-35 minutes or until heated through. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup of cheese. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. If desired top with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and olives and serve with sour cream.

MM MM Good! This was also a great dish.. After a bunch of complaining that there was no meat I think I’ll add some sausage or ground turkey next time.. It was very tasty just the way it was though! There wasn’t much left overs..so that should tell you something!

2 bridges.twice.

I was online looking at the Melbourne Beaches & Music Marathon. I was checking out the course map when I realized you have to do the loop twice. The first loop is 13mi, then you do it again.. Which in a way is good, you could break it out in half-marathon’s. It’s also bad. This means that I have to run up the Eau Gallie causeway not once, but twice, I also have to run up the Melbourne causeway twice. Uhm? So I just quit looking at it. Why even think about it now, it’s not till Feb. I have 29 weeks, or 199 days (per the race website) .  Chris & I talked about some causeways that we could go run on to “practice” hills. I am weak on hills, like bad. I hate them. I like to plan flat races; the last 5k I ran was hilly & that was not cute.

Oh my dear goodness! I was just showing Chris the half-marathon I am absolutely with out a doubt going to be running in November. They finally released the 2010 Finishers Medal, holy moly jamocha shake, I must have this medal! A pink ribbon with a palm tree medal, I mean seriously?! Does it get any better than that? Oh goodness, I’m obsessed.  That race is in 129 days!   Woohoo!

On to today’s run: 3mi @ 8:52 , 28:23.  Pretty decent run. I felt great. The one and only thing I like about the treadmill is the consistency of my pace. When I run outside I’m all over the darn place. I know my Garmin has a feature that you can set that will beep at you if you run to slow or too fast. I just don’t if I’m at ‘that’ level of running to use that feature. I have issues controlling my pace.  When I run outdoors I range all over the place from 9:50-9:05, and if i’m feeling really good sometimes an 8:45-8:50, I’m a mess.

Tonight I was running short on time so I couldn’t get an outside run in. I popped dinner in the oven for 33 minutes, ran and jumped on the TM while dinner baked.. Now that’s using my time wisely!

Speaking of dinner, it was delish- After a little whining from Chris & my Dad that there was NO MEAT! they admitted it was pretty tasty! We had Blackbean Casserole. I had one serving, but I’m pretty sure both Chris & my Dad went back for more.. They kept telling me all the different types of meats it would be good with though. Ha Ha!

Tomorrow is another day, another dollar! Yay for humpday!

geico,statefarm,esurance Oh My!

I’ve been shopping around for new auto insurance for the last few days. So many decisions, so many things depend on those decisions. Do you get 50/100 for Bodily injury, do you get stacked/unstacked for uninsured motorist, do you get rental coverage.. no? But what if you need rental car coverage.. What exactly does Bodily Injury protection cover?  The questions go on, and on, and on, and on. It is very confusing and over whelming when trying to decide which insurance, and which coverage is the best.  Chris suggested I e-mail one of our friends who is in the auto insurance business. Boy! I wish I had remembered that days ago when I first started this, her advice was so helpful and pretty much made our decisions for us. Now, we just have to decide who will be the winner.  I’ve gotten quotes from pretty much all the major insurers, Geico, Progressive, Allstate, Esurance, Safeco, 21st Century… I think we are going to go with Geico. We currently pay around $240/mth for both of our vehicles. Geico would be the same coverages, and it’s $169/mth for both vehicles.  That’s a savings of approximately $71/mth. That’s pretty substantial right? I mean c’mon that’s  blackberry payment. Ha Ha.. The object is to save money. Not save money then spend it elsewhere.

I love Sundays. It’s the one day a week Chris & I have off together. Chris made this awesome omelet for breakfast this morning. It had green peppers, jalapenos, cheese, and shredded chicken from last nights leftovers, YUM! 

Today we went to GoodWill. I went by there yesterday and saw a dresser that I thought I might want. I wasn’t sure if it was real wood, or that particle board, laminated crap, so I wanted Chris to look at it. It is painted dark dark green, had some chips on the wood, and was going to need a lot of work. I didn’t want to buy it w/o Chris seeing it first. So we went up there, and it was still there. He looked at it and said, nah, to much to fix it.. Fine with me, it wasn’t exactly what I am looking for anyways, just close. .. We looked around and found this cute little guy. We are using it as a night stand in the guest bedroom.

It’s a little rough around the edges,  but I really like it. Now I just need to find a dresser to go in that room, hang some art, and we will be all set.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, that is what I’ve been doing today. I’ve had to pee 10435874 times today! We are going for a run, well i’m running, Chris is riding his bike, outside today. Well, this evening when it might decide to cool off some. I’m dying of boredom on the treadmill. I mapped out a run on mapmyrun.com . Yay!
